Very well written, and timely.

Of course, the classic cardinal virtues immediately come to mind. Temperance (generally control of appetites - maybe control of the physical self), Prudence (generally mastering your thinking - like control of the mental self), Fortitude (Courage, or control over the emotional self) and Justice (putting things towards good ends).

Which is most important? Understanding that none of them are irrelevant, all are necessary, I think that justice is the most important one. A person who has temperance, prudence and fortitude, but uses those virtues towards bad ends would be a very effective monster. But I don't think you can approach Justice without having done some work on the other things. People without fortitude or prudence might be swayed by an emotional appeal before getting the facts in hand.
