He called them with the same magic that brings the fog in the morning or a thunderstorm on a hot summer afternoon. They came from the reservation. They came from hiding places deep in canyons or high in mountains. They came because he was the War Chief. and before they passed from the world, they wanted to go on one last raid. They were the moisture in the earth or the charge in the sky before a storm. They came because they wanted to be released.
"An Apache was meant to wander in mountains and his soul died when he didn't."
Beautiful prose man.
"And then, when there was nothing left they would eat each other. Until the last white man, a creature of boundless appetite would sit all alone in the dark, gnawing on his own feet, until he ate himself up and the universe came to an end."
Wow. This rings true and makes you stop reading for a second to ponder it. If this was dialogue captured in a history book I would call it disturbingly prophetic.
"What has the whole world become, but the white man’s tent?"
I love it when authors capture ideas in words like this. Excellent. Well done.
As this story picks up I'm excited for the ride, and I like the characters. I look forward to see what part each plays in the story. You've introduced many characters already, in a easy engrossing way. Not easily done. Excited for more.
Patrick, your writing has reached a whole new level. I am captivated by the story.
More new characters! I wonder how they’ll end up connecting with each other.
The prose in this was very well done. There are so many lines in this that really shine through the computer screen. Can’t wait to read more.
