Virgil had sat in the Nothing with the Shaman for an amount of time he could not identify. He asked, "I saw you dead. How is any of this possible?” “It would be more polite if you asked me a question I could answer,” said Shaman, running his colorless fingers through the colorless grass on which they sat. “I am what you see, but I am not what you see. Your mind makes sense of it with the symbols it has.”
I like it when one chapter feels like an entire book. I think the first time I experienced that was in Clive Barker's "The Great and Secret Show". Though I'll admit that was a longer chapter than this one. Or maybe it was more than on chapter.
I wonder, if Grantham were to ever return to where it had been, will some or all of it just fall into the ground now that there’s a big hole where it used to be?
Dang Virgil. That’s one of the saddest things I’ve ever heard! You keep digging you old romantic man in love. I wasn’t expecting this quick leap through years of time to pass. I’m interested to see how you balance that with the timelines of the other characters. Cool chapter!
