There are all these folks who believe humility is weakness and sets you up for victimization. Meanwhile, we humble people understand humility demonstrates strength. But it's kind of chicken-or-egg. Does humility create strength or is humility a byproduct of strength? Are they somehow the same thing? I don't know. And I don't know whether to feel humane toward swaggering people or just annoyed.

I think people who swagger often do so because they are psychologically brittle or afraid. Real trouble flattens them. It's also a weakness of narcissism. You're never going to bring out best -- your BEST best -- when you're doing it only for yourself.

We just live in such comfort, that we have the illusion we can avoid real trouble. By sooner or later life hands you a real fucking catastrophe. And then you get to find out how strong your are. Or your family is.

The world is beautiful, but it isn't safe or fair.
